Red Hot Chili Peppers Dump Kreayshawn

Red Hot Chili Peppers Dump Kreayshawn
Pop rap upstart Kreayshawn directed a video for The Red Hot Chili Peppers' new single, but the SoCal funk-rockers decided to scrap the clip. Kreayshawn has directed several videos despite being a film school dropout and rising to fame as a YouTube sensation-turned-rapper.
“We had one sort of failed attempt at making a video for this song, which was indoors and just kind of dark and dank and not really fun or anything, so we thought, ‘Let’s go with the opposite of that,' and the opposite of that was a rooftop," said lead singer Anthony Kiedis to MTV News.
In a previous interview, Kreayshawn had raved about working with one of the most beloved rock bands in the world.
“It’s got that organic feel, but it still gives the band a great shine and they look fu**ing awesome," she said about the video. "They are looking off the chain, man. Anthony’s in there looking like a swimsuit model."

Lil Wayne Says "Carter IV" Is Complete

Lil Wayne Says ''Carter IV'' Is Complete
Lil Wayne says that his long-awaited Tha Carter IV album is done. Wayne has been working on his follow-up to 2008s Tha Carter III since before he was incarcerated last year, and despite complaints last week about production, the rapper says his opus is now complete.
"The album is done and it'll be out August 29. It's totally done," said Wayne told MTV News. He also discussed the track "How To Love."
"That song is just sweeping the world. It's touching every woman, that's what it was for," explained Weezy. "It was like Tupac had 'Keep Ya Head Up' and it was a message to women and little girls across the world just to keep your head up even though things are hard. That's what my song was."
"A lot of women don't know how to love because there's deep reasons for them not knowing how to love."

Lil Duval Lands MTV Show

Lil Duval Lands MTV Show
Comedian Lil' Duval is prepping a new television show with MTV. The show focuses on the comedian's travels across the country. The as-yet-untitled program will give hip hop fans a look at the country as filtered through the eyes of one of their favorite comedians.
"We stay on the road trying to make the world laugh, the whole country, staying on the road doing what I do best,” Lil Duval told AllHipHop. “I shot a couple of films and I got the show with MTV that we just finished, hopefully that will be out by August. It’s a travel show and we go to places you don’t normally see ni**as. I get tired of people thinking that the only thing there is to do is go to the club, so I try to show another side to let people know there’s other stuff out there."
He also spoke a little about his incarcerated friend, rapper T.I.
“I think he ate breakfast this morning," Lil Duval said. "He’s in jail. He gets out this year, so when he gets out, he gonna do the damn thing. So it is what it is, sh*t…. what can he do?”

50 Cent Could Leave Interscope

50 Cent Could Leave Interscope
50 Cent's relationship with his label, Interscope, appears to be growing more and more tenuous by the day. Following the rapper's vocal complaints about the label regarding his forthcoming project--now pushed back to November--50 told MTV that he hasn't decided if he will return to the label once his current five-album deal is done.
"I don't know," 50 told MTV News. "It will all be clear in the negotiations following me turning this actual album in. And, of course, the performance and how they actually treat the work will determine whether you still want to stay in that position or not...It's not like you're gonna be able to make a project bigger than the actual project is, but if the songs are right and you have full support and you feel that support, why would you want to go anywhere else? If not, if you don't have that support, why would you want to sign to another system? In the financial state that I'm in, you just do it yourself."

50 Cent On Crossover Appeal:

50 Cent On Crossover Appeal:
50 Cent recently spoke to MTV about the difference between his career and his mentor/cohort Eminem. Despite the two being affiliated for years, 50 acknowledged that Em has had a different road than 50 Cent as he discussed the benefits and detriments of being a crossover artist in hip hop.
"You can't compare Eminem and 50 Cent's career on any level," 50 added. "Eminem doesn't know what the inside of Hot 97 looks like. He's never even had to go there. So the top 40 and crossover-radio platforms are detrimental to the success of an Eminem project, and for me to get to the top 40 or crossover space, I have to have music that performs so well on your Hot 97s and Power 106s of the world until it actually goes up to that point."

Justin Timberlake Dismissed By Jay-Z?

Justin Timberlake Dismissed By Jay-Z?
Justin Timberlake recently revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that he is no longer interested in working with rap superstar Jay-Z. Timberlake had been trying to work with Jay on Justin'sFutureSex/LoveSounds album back in 2007, but Jay brushed him off. Timberlake said that he's moved on now.
"Jay-Z has put out 11 albums, and I was talking about doing collaboration with him, and he said, 'I can't do it right now, but I'll get you on the next album.' I was like, 'No, man, I don't work like that,” Timberlake explained to the magazine. “This sounded good to me for you and me to do together, and if it doesn't work, then I totally get it, but I won't be putting an album out next year; these aren't a dime a dozen to me.'"

Kid Cudi's TV Role Expands

Kid Cudi's TV Role Expands
Kid Cudi has said that his role on the HBO show "How To Make It In America" will be expanded this upcoming season. The rapper says that this season will reveal more layers to his character and he will get to showcase the range of his acting abilities.
"This season, my character has a lot more depth than the first season, and one of the things that I really took seriously was preparing. I got an acting coach; I wanted to step it up," he told MTV News. "With anything that I'm doing, I always want to take it to the next level — whether it's music or acting."
"The biggest lesson I've learned, I guess, is just the focus part of it, transforming into this character," he said. "First season, my character was in six out of eight episodes, and I kinda popped up and I was here and there, and my character was more perceived as the party guy. But I really did what I could with the first [season] without having many skills."

Video: "The Hangover" Gets Spoofed At The 2011 MTV Movie Awards

As it does every year, the 2011 MTV Movie Awards opened up with a parody that incorporated a bunch of last year's popular movies, framed around a send-up of The Hangover. Skeptical? We can't blame you; when was the last time anyone legitimately found an MTV awards skit to be funny?
No matter how corny the past parodies have been, MTV finally produced something that's marginally humorous for a change. Jason Sudeikis, the show's host, Twilight star Taylor Lautner, and actual Hangover actor Jason Bartha starred in the bit, which led Sudeikis through spoofs of The Social Network, Black Swan, and 127 Hours. The highlight, though, was Eva Mendes waking up inside a bathtub, for obvious reasons.
There's also some obligatory use of the Mila Kunis/Natalie Portman girl-on-girl scene from Black Swan. Why? Who cares—it's not like we're about to complain. Have a look for yourselves.

Kanye Wins Award For Tweeting

Kanye Wins Award For Tweeting
And the award for “Best Tweet” goes to...Kanye West!
We’re serious.
MTV just announced its pick for the O Music Awards and Mr. West-- who had an entire category devoted to his pearls of wisdom, won for his water-bottle tweet, written in October, “I hate when I'm on a flight and I wake up with a water bottle next to me. Although tweeting for less than a year, that one managed to beat out the other contenders in the category including: "dating models I had to learn to like small dogs and cigarettes," "Is the Versace sofa too hood? Might need to cover it in plastic!!!," "I always misspell genius SMH! The Irony!," "I have decided to become the best rapper of all time! I put it on my things to do in this lifetime list!" and "I specifically ordered Persian rugs with cherub imagery!!! What do I have to do to get a simple Persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh."
Other award winners include: Nicki Minaj for “Favorite Animated GIF” and Pandora Internet Radio for “Best Music Discovery Service”. The inaugural O Music Awards are live from Las Vegas tonight at 11 p.m. as they announce the winners of “Most Viral Dance”, “Must Follow Artist on Twitter” and “NSFW Music Video."

The news of L.A. Reid's departure from Def Jam last month to become a host for TV show "X-Factor" shouldn't have been too much of a surprise for the music industry. Rumors had been swirling about Reid's tenuous relationship with his former label as far back as 2009. Reid himself finally addressed his leaving hip hop's most iconic label.
"It was very difficult to leave," Reid told MTV. "It wasn't difficult to decide to do 'X Factor,' it was difficult to walk away from this amazing roster and amazing staff of people and all the executives that were there that was tough."

Nicki Minaj Silent On 2nd Album

Nicki Minaj Silent On 2nd Album
Nicki Minaj is already being pressed about her follow-up to the successful Pink Friday. Her debut album is less than six months old, but in today's voracious musical climate, fans and media seem to want an endless stream of material from artists. But Nicki remained vague on what she has cooking for her sophomore album.
"I can give you an idea," she told MTV. "But I don't want to. I'd rather not right now. Because then everybody is gonna jump on the bandwagon and say they're putting out their album the same day."
